Opportunity. If you ever played softball, someone in your life gave you that opportunity. Maybe it was your Dad and Mom? Coach? Guardian? Teacher? Whoever it was, we all had someone. We learned how to throw, catch, run, hit and hit with power. We pitched, caught, slide into bases and laughed our heads off, and sometimes shed a few tears…
Then, in a blink of an eye as compared to our lives, it was over. Maybe it ended at 13, or 18, or 22, but it ended for most everyone. That knot in your stomach you got when you stepped in with the bases loaded was gone -forever. The chance to stoke the fire to compete, to work with others on a team, to just play in the dirt was taken away. Why? Because you’re a girl! There are just no words to describe just how stupid that concept became. No More!!
Well, no more. Opportunity knocked. With its inaugural season in 2021, Pine To Prairie Women’s Softball League ended the sexism and ageism of sports played on a diamond by offering a new opportunity to play the game you love. Open substitution let’s everyone play, self-coached teams empowers players. Various Twin Cities locations allowed short drive times to games. The 2022 season saw an increase to 8 teams! 2023 was even better!! In 2024 improvements are being made with scheduling to make the season even more convenient!
Weeknight games only, scheduled for busy women with jobs, kids, and spouses. Doubleheaders, scheduled after work, to save precious time. Individual player registration AND team registrations allow flexibility in cost. Twelve games over 6 weeks in June and July to allow family vacations and weekend boating. Who are our current players? Current players from D1, D2, D3, Junior colleges, collegiate player alums, high school player alums, club and park board alums, all have found a place to share their love of softball. We especially love or Mom-Daughter combos!
Over One-Hundred players that first year: Mothers and daughters, long-lost friends and new friends; full collegiate teams; high school coaches, club coaches, and just players who wanted a break from Covid all joined in the fun. Players from ages 18 to 42 all came out; they laughed, got dirty, hit home runs and singles, pitched, caught and flied-out to center. One danced the Macarena; another juggled softballs.
2P’s mission is to offer equality of opportunity to play meaningful, competitive softball to women of all ages in a league of their own. Colleges are welcome to register full teams of their own players (and alums if they choose). Individual players can sign up as a single or with a friend(s).
